"Dedicated to Breed Improvement""

FUTURITY/MATURITY SYSTEM
What is a Futurity and why? First of all, a Futurity is a Puppy Match and a Breeders show.
It has come into being through the annals of horse racing. For centuries horse breeders have nominated
unborn foals representing the pedigree mares and fabulous stallions from overseas. Many, many years
ago the German Shepherd Dog Futurities rules required the actual presence of the sires and dams of the
individual puppies in the show. We are now only concerned with the puppies themselves. It is a breeder's
show because these puppies are the result of a breeder's plan and/or breeding program. Because entire
litters are nominated and generally many show, it gives a better picture of the results of the combinations
of certain bloodlines (which is not always obtained in the regular show ring where generally there are only
one or two of a litter shown at a time).

A Futurity is different from a regular show in many ways. Litters must be nominated for Futurities where in
regular competition they need not be. Competition in Futurities is in age groups, while this is not true otherwise.
There are no championship points given. Rather than Best of Breed the winner is designated Best in Futurity.
Litters must be nominated as a complete and whole entity within ninety (90) days of whelping. Either the owner
of the puppy or the breeder of the puppy may nominate the litter, but in either case the breeder must be a
member in good standing of the G.S.D.C.C. Inc. and must sign the nomination form. In order to nominate a litter
you must be a member of the German Shepherd Dog club of Canada Inc. or apply for membership at time of
nomination. A puppy may be entered and shown in only one region even if his litter was nominated in a different
region. Individual entry forms will be mailed to the breeder between February 15th and March 21st. The breeder
is responsible for distributing them to the owners of the puppies from their litters.

Puppies must be entered in their proper age class regardless of development, maturity, or personal preference of the
exhibitor. The winners of each class are judged in a combined group with the best male puppy being designated Futurity
Male. Using C.K.C. procedures a Reserve Futurity Male will then be designated. Then the puppies of the opposite
sex are judged, and the winner of that group being designated Futurity Female. Using C.K.C. procedure a Reserve
Futurity Female will then be designated. The Futurity Male and Futurity Female are then eligible to compete for Best in
and Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Futurity.

The Maturity Section is judged after the Futurity judging is finished. This part of the show is for those dogs that have
been entered but not necessarily shown in the previous years Futurity. The Maturity is divided into two classes only -
dogs and bitches. The winners of these classes compete for the title of Best in Maturity and Best of Opposite Sex to
Best in Maturity. A Reserve Maturity Male and a Reserve Maturity Female is also designated.

Futurity and Maturity winners and all Futurity and Maturity Reserve winners will be eligible to compete at the Canadian
National Specialty for the titles of Futurity Victor and Victrix and Maturity Victor and Victrix.

If, Futurities do indeed, "Forecast the future,", this should be an all important show. It should be important for breeder's
competition, an early look at up and coming young dogs, a look at what the breeder's in your geographical location are
accomplishing in their breeding programs, and a look at and into what we are doing for and to our breed.

TABULATION EXPLANATION
Points are awarded to the Sires and Dams of all winning progeny exhibited in the Canadian Futurity/Maturity shows as outlined below.

FUTURITY

Points are awarded for all class winners in each of the six regions as follows:

1st Place 4 PTS
2nd Place 3 PTS
3rd Place 2 PTS
4th Place 1 PT

These class points are then multiplied by the number of animals entered in the class. (we use entered because allot of young dogs are
entered but not shown for various reasons and can be considered defeated in theory:also because absent entries are not always mark,
all classes are tabulated as number entered)

Example: Junior Male Class (Quebec Region) Number of Dogs entered in class = 20
1st Place - 4 (PTS) x 20 (dogs entered) = 80 points
2nd Place - 3 (PTS) x 19 (dogs entered minus 1) = 57 points
3rd Place - 2 (PTS) x 18 (dogs entered minus 2) = 36 points
4th Place - 1(PTS) x 17 (dogs entered minus 3) = 17 points

Additional Points are awarded for winners male and winners female at the regional level according to number defeated
(in the winners sex only) in that region

NOTE There are no extra points awarded for best of winners Example: Winners Male (Eastern Ontario/Quebec Region)
total Eastern Ontario/Quebec Region Futurity Male Entry = 55 dogs
Additional Points " WINNERS MALE" = 55 PTS (these extra points are used in the multiplication factor for tabulations)

MATURITY

Maturity classes in all regions are treated the same way as futurity except the points are greater.

Maturity Points are awarded to Maturity class winners in each of the six regions as follows:
1st Place 8 PTS
2nd Place 6 PTS
3rd Place 4 PTS
4th Place 2 PTS

Example: Maturity Male (Eastern Ontario/Quebec Region) Number of dogs entered in class = 15
1st Place 8 (PTS) x 15 (number entered) = 120 points
2nd Place 6 (PTS) x 14 (number entered minus 1) = 84 points
3rd Place 4 (PTS) x 13 (number entered minus 2) = 52 points
4th Place 2 (PTS) x 12 (number entered minus 3) = 24 points

FUTURITY/MATURITY

The class points for all winners in all regions are then added together for each sire and dam.
The total of all the class points and winners dog and winners female points if applicable are then multiplied by the number
winners that particular sire or dam produced in the tabulations (winners meaning 1st to 4th placing)
